Rovers Stay on Top

Shamrock Rovers claimed a hard fought win against Derry City in their quest to win the LOI Premier Division title. Rovers started the tough away trip in fine style and nearly had an early goal. Padraig Amond sneaked behind Derrys defence but his scorching effort hit the crossbar. Derrys Gareth McGlynn found David Scullion two minutes later but his first time effort flew over the crossbar.

With 27 minutes gone Stephen Bradley crossed for Dessie Baker who was offside, but the referee's assistant took his flag down and Padraig Amond passed back to Baker for the striker to net the winner. The home side pressed the Rovers defence, but they stood tall throughout the second half to gain 3 valuable points.
