Last updated : 02 December 2005 By Gerry Ormonde

The launch of the group will take place at 3pm. and all who are interested in the future of football in Ireland are invited to attend

At the launch fans will be invited to sign up for membership of the NLSA and a committee will be appointed to run the organisation until the AGM in early 2006.

There will be general discussion regarding the issues facing the eircom League and other aims of the organisation. The NLSA have prepared a draft response to the Genesis report on the eircom League and there will be discussions surrounding this response, prior to its submission to Genesis.

In a statement to the media those behind the drive to establish the organisation said: “Irish domestic football fans contributed around €4m in gate receipts for their clubs in the last twelve months. The NLSA has also worked with the FAI to improve atmosphere in Lansdowne Road and contributed over €270,000 towards the FAI in international ticket sales since the introduction of this scheme.”

The statement continued: “It has been confirmed this week that over 17,000 tickets for the FAI Cup Final have been sold already, and combined with the record breaking viewing figures for last months' crunch Cork City v Derry City league decider, interest in domestic football has never been higher.

“The NLSA believe that a strong fans grouping, representing all clubs will allow supporters a greater say in Irish domestic football and allow for improved communication between the FAI, the eircom League and supporters.

”The success of the grouping will depend upon the support it receives from domestic football fans. Anyone interested in the future of the domestic league are encouraged to come along to Dalymount this Saturday at 3pm.”
