Paul McGrath has voiced his concerns about the current financial crisis in the League of Ireland. The 83 times capped former Republic of Ireland centre back responded to Keith Faheys comments about the League
He wrote in the Birmingham Mail
"I was interested to read the thoughts of Blues midfielder Keith Fahey on the current state of the League of Ireland.
"Fahey said that he felt that the league had reached its peak three seasons ago and would never be the same again due to the lack of finances being pumped into the game over in my country.
"I still keep on eye on the League of Ireland and I have to agree with Fahey that the current standard of the competition isn't very good.
"While things are looking a lot brighter for the national team than in recent years, the same can't be said for the domestic game." "With a lot of Irish clubs cutting back on wages, even lads who aren't too desperate to leave will be forced over to England in an attempt to make a decent living out of the game they love.
"It's a shame but I believe it's inevitable that there will be a fair few more Irish hopefuls being forced to turn their back on their home country to enter the English game in the near future."
