The game had been dominated by Shelbourne and they finally scored what looked to be the winner on 86 minutes when a Glen Crowe header came back off a post and was tapped home by Colin Hawkins.

But UCD equalised in the 90th minute when Brian Gannon raced on to an Anthony Murphy through ball and lobbed Steve Williams.

The game looked to be heading into extra time when three minutes into stoppage time a bad back pass from Owen Heary gifted Robbie Martin a clear run on goal and he rounded Williams to score and put UCD into the final.
