Students advance to Quarters

Longford, who were hoping to win a third consecutive FAI Carlsberg Cup title this season, took the lead in the ninth minute when Paul Keegan tapped into the empty net after Darren Quigley could only parry a Gary Cronin shot.

But three minutes before half time, the Students drew level when Stephen Hurley s free kick was headed home by an unmarked Tony McDonnell.

Longford dominated the second half but their wastefulness in front of goal was to be punished with ten minutes remaining when Pat McWalter raced into to head home an Anto Murphy cross.
