Setanta Cup: Shelbourne 0-0 Derry City

They might have taken the lead after eight minutes only for Glenn Crowe to narrowly miss a headed ball across the face of goal while not long after Colin Hawkins nodded a Bobby Ryan cross just wide.

Derry's first effort of note was a Ciaran Martyn right-foot shot on 26 minutes but moments later at the other end the Shels came close through a Jason Byrne snap-shot.

The visitors continued to enjoy the lions share of possession after the break but with the game played in at times blizzard like conditions real goalscoring opportunities were always going to be at a premium.

Perhaps the closest either side came to breaking the deadlock was a Joseph Ndo 20-yard drive which produced a superb stop from keeper David Forde.

Group Two resumes on March 13th when the Shels visit Windsor Park while The Candystripes entertain Glentoran.
