Premier Division: Rogers re-signs amid Drogs ticketing chaos

The 22-year-old goalkeeper had been linked with a close season move to champions Shelbourne, having joined Drogheda from the Tolka Park club’s youth team two years ago.

His new two-year-deal will see him stay attempt to better his 11 league clean sheets garnered last season, at United Park, where a new admission price increase has enraged not only supporters of the County Louth club but fans of the other nine Premier sides.

The club have released a statement to explain the reasoning for the rise in the 2004 admission, which sees adults charged €25 for stand admission and €20 for the rest of the ground. Students and old-age pensioners will be charged €10 whilst children under 12 will cost €5.

The statement reads, “The Board want to lead the club to a new progressive future based on sound management, a secure financial base and a successful team."

"To achieve this we need to provide the additional income that can only come from the paying customer. It is for this reason that the club has reluctantly come to the decision that admission charges must be substantially increased.

"This decision has been a painful one but supporters will know that their subscriptions are being used to secure what they desire, ie a team and a club that is professionally run and properly administered with an ambitious outlook on the future."

Drogheda’s plans to finish well above their eighth place of last season will gather renewed pace next Saturday when the squad begin their pre-season training in their new training base of Mosney.

A five nights-a-week regime will be undertaken with new gym facilities and training lights having been provided for Paul Doolin’s charges.
