Longford Town 2 (Barrett 32, Perth 64) Shelbourne 1 (J Byrne 20)
---
Town’s win, just their sixth in 18 home games, moves them into fifth spot in the Premier Division, with a Thursday night meeting against St Pat’s, their sixth of the season, and Sunday’s visit to Belfield to come.
Shane Barrett netted in the 32nd minute, following a deflected Eric Lavine shot, to cancel out Jason Byrne’s lead goal hit twelve minutes earlier, as Shels conceded their first goal in five league games.
Byrne managed to net his twentieth League goal of the season under pressure from Barry Ferguson, to edge two goals clear of Bohemians’ Glen Crowe in the scoring stakes.
Perth decisively scored on 64 minutes to hand Shels only their third away loss of the campaign. Longford move ahead of Waterford United into fifth, with a superior goal difference of plus three.
