DERRY CITY 0 UCD 2 (Gallen 28, Martin 50)
Goals from Alan Gallen and John Martin saw bottom-of-the-table UCD narrow the gap on Derry, in ninth, to just two points with a solid performance and Pete Mahon's second win in four days.
Former Bohemians' boss Mahon has been in charge of the Students' for barely three weeks and already has doubled their wins column for the season, to four.
Striker Gallen put College in front on 28 minutes when he latched onto Peter Hutton's weak back header to fire past Alan Gough.
The second goal came on 50 minutes when Gallen, looking offside, crossed for the unmarked Martin to finish.
Michael Holt did have the ball in the UCD net but the goal was ruled out for handball.
There was drama afterwards as Keely announced his resignation having taken over from Kevin Mahon at the end of July. The former Shelbourne and Kildare County manager invited club chairman Jim Roddy into the dressing room and had his resignation accepted.
