Former Irish U19 international pairing Killian Brennan and Pierre Ennis were snapped up yesterday by the former Kildare County assistant, and added to a list of five other players brought in over Christmas.
Experienced midfielder Don Tierney, a former Cup winner with Bray Wanderers, will line out in the capital’s colours next season along with a quarter from Gill’s previous club Kildare – Alan Keely, Ray Scully, Ben Whelehan and top scoring striker Philly Hughes.
Snapped up ahead of FA Premiership rivals, the signings of Brennan and Ennis mark something of a coup for the north Dublin club. For left winger Brennan, a former Home Farm schoolboy, it will be a fresh start after unsuccessful trials with both Chesterfield and QPR, since his release from Peterborough seven months ago.
‘I hope the people of Dublin begin to realise that we are committed to fielding a side full of potential’, announced Gill, who is to visit Nottingham Forest in the next week to observe the workings of a professional club and also to discuss the formulisation of potential links between the two clubs.
‘We have adopted a policy of signing young, talented players for this club, and it's a tremendous compliment that we have managed to sign the likes of Killian Brennan and Pierre Ennis in the face of competition from other Premiership sides.’
Nineteen-year-old Ennis, a noted defender who claimed the FAI U17 Player of the year award in 2002, was released by Aston Villa before Christmas after failing to break into the first team.
