ST PATRICK'S ATHLETIC (0) 0
CORK CITY (0) 0 (AET)
*Pat's won 3-1 on penalties
Eamonn Collins’ side will represent the club in their fourth League Cup final against the winner of tonight’s second semi-final, either Longford Town or Derry City.
With matters deadlocked at 0-0 after two hours of football, spot kicks from Tony Bird, Keith Dunne and Anthony Murphy saw Pat’s run out 3-1 shoot-out winners. Cork’s only success being their first kick from John O’Flynn – with Gallagher stopping Billy Woods, Conor O’Grady and Denis Behan. Michael Devine parried away Pat’s only miss, from Davy Byrne.
Normal time produced few moments of drama, besides Alan Bennett heading Keith Dunne’s goal bound chip over the City bar and nearing the final whistle, George O’Callaghan setting up O’Flynn, for the league’s top scorer to shoot wide.
Extra-time saw caginess and tiredness from both sides, mindful of their two previous draws this season, with the home side prevailing on penalties.
