Gough's first half saves from Alan O'Reilly and Vinny Sullivan at the start of the second half paved the way for striker Michael Holt to score for the second time in the space of a week and earn Derry a valuable point in their basement battle with Drogheda United, who they play next week, and UCD.
Speaking afterwards, he commented on the fall through of his proposed move to Linfield. 'Listen I'm just delighted to be with Derry at the moment. The boys played very well tonight and remember this is a young side so a point against Waterford away is a great result.'
'I expected to be busy,' he continued, 'the lads dug in and Dermot and the boys are happy with the point. I thought Lee (Molyneaux) and Gordon (Simms) did well in front of me and the three man defence worked well for us.'
'Waterford are second in the table and Dermot told us it would be tough but Michael (Holt) scored a great goal and we can move onto Drogheda next week with hopes of a win.'
Before that Derry host APOEL Nicosia on Thursday night at the Brandywell in the UEFA Cup qualifying round second leg, for which Alan Gough is ineligible. Full coverage will be available on ATOGB when the match kicks-off.
