First Division: O'Flynn to trial with Aberdeen

The 21-year-old was instrumental in Limerick’s unbeaten run of 14 games unbeaten, before it ended curtly in the second leg of their promotion play-off with Derry, as they were humbled 4-0 at the Brandywell.

Currently out of contract, if O’Flynn decided to join the likes of former eircom League players Richie Byrne, Noel Hunt and Gary Demspey in the Scottish Premier League, Limerick would be entitled to compensation.

Earlier this month St Patrick’s Athletic dead ball specialist Keith Fahey had trials with West Ham and Portsmouth, while Galway United front man Alan Murphy took part in two Burnley sessions last week.

Manager Mike Kerley commented, ‘he’s only young and is improving with every passing year. I feel in two years time, he could be a regular player if Aberdeen end up signing him.’

'He scores goals and is a very physical player’, added the 31-year-old, ‘and would not be overawed by the full-time training.’

Kerley is uncertain about his own future at Limerick’s Pike Rovers ground however, stating that his position is ‘up in the air at the moment, but I expect to make a decision soon.’ Shorn of a number of players due to injury, Kerley guided his side to fourth in the eircom First Division and has been nominated for the eircom/Soccer Writers’ Personality of the year award to be announced on Friday.
