The Kildare Thoroughbreds claimed their eighth victory of the league campaign and in the process leapfrogged Bray Wanderers into third place at Station Road. Wing-back Gareth Cronin, a recent signing by Dermot Keely from Cork City, headed home a 56th minute winner to doom visitors Kilkenny to their tenth loss in fourteen games.

Monaghan United 1 (Prizeman 5, Gifford s/o 59)

Galway moved to sixth in the table thanks to three first-half goals at Terryland Park last night. With fifteen draws between the sides over twenty-six games this season, Galway, one of the higher scoring teams in the division, fell behind after just three minutes.

Jonathan Prizeman, starting his first game for the club following his recent transfer from Shamrock Rovers, netted after just three minutes. Just two minutes later, Galway equalised through top scorer Alan Murphy.

Midfielder Benny Lawless gave the Terryland Park side the lead after a quarter of an hour and Murphy volleyed home his second on the half hour.

Stephen Gifford walked for a second bookable offence on the hour and striker John Russell sealed the points on full-time, to lift Galway to sixth in the table.
