FAI Cup: Sligo earn stalemate with Shels

Sligo Rovers hardly brought giant killing league form into this third round clash at the Showgrounds but plundered an unlikely draw against top drawer Shelbourne.

Twice Dessie Baker was gifted a one-on-one with Rovers’ net minder Ciaran Kelly but twice he missed. The home side’s best chance meanwhile fell to Paul Tiernan on 38 minutes, shooting wide from twelve yards.

The Premier Division leaders took a greater hold on the game in the second period and should have won it on 78 minutes but striker Jason Bryne agonised as his well-driven shot rebounded off the Rovers’ crossbar. The replay takes place next Thursday at Tolka Park.
