Having lost 3-0 to FAI Cup finalists Longford Town, who had hat-trick hero Dessie Baker to thank, at the start of last month, Derry have now gone on a four-game unbeaten run.

Tonight's (Thursday's) result, their second win in that series following a surprise 2-0 success against champions Shelbourne, sees them up to sixth in the eircom Premier Division.

Drogheda, on the other hand, have been sliding down the table - and have now lost their last four league games.

A goal after just two minutes from Farren (above), making his first start under new boss Stephen Kenny after a season ruined by injuries, settled the game.

Killian Brennan sent over an inswinging corner and an unmarked Farren headed gleefully past goalkeeper Tony O'Dowd, one of five changes in the Drogheda side.

Former West Ham stopper David Forde ensured a clean sheet for Derry as he stretched brilliantly to dent Mark Rooney on 88 minutes.

The Drogs, who lost out in extra time to Longford in their recent Cup semi-final replay, are still without a league win since August.
