Byrne started the scoring in the 14th minute when he fired home a shot from the edge of the area though one minute later, UCD equalised when Anthony Murphy headed home a Stephen Hurley free kick.

But Byrne grabbed a second in the 35th minute when he tapped home an Ollie Cahill cross before Patrick McWalter equalised again after a Damien Dupuy header had come back off the bar in the 47th minute.

Byrne completed his hat trick from the penalty spot with 17 minutes remaining after Stuart Byrne had been fouled before Owen Heary notched up a fourth with a header from a Bobby Ryan free.
