Byrne started the scoring in the 14th minute when he fired home a shot from the edge of the area though one minute later, UCD equalised when Anthony Murphy headed home a Stephen Hurley free kick.

But Byrne grabbed a second in the 35^th minute when he tapped home an Ollie Cahill cross before Patrick McWalter equalised again after a Damien Dupuy header had come back off the bar in the 47^th minute.

Byrne completed his hat trick from the penalty spot with 17 minutes remaining after Stuart Byrne had been fouled before Owen Heary notched up a fourth with a header from a Bobby Ryan free.
