St. Patrick’s Athletic did well to survive until the 74th minute for they saw Shels’ striker Jason Byrne strike an upright and later the woodwork rescued them again when defender Stephen Caffrey mis-hit an attempted clearance against the frame of the goal.

Goalkeeper Barry Ryan played well for St. Pats and made good saves from Gary O’Neill and Glen Crowe late in the game.

He was beaten, however, when O’Neill slipped away from Darragh Maguire before shooting to the net after 74 minutes. It was O'Neill's fourth goal in as many games.

St. Pat’s defeat meant they have now gone 10 games without a win
