Rovers first chance in the 29th minute when Mark Quigley’s low cross was side-footed towards goal by Trevor Molloy only for Darren Quigley to pull off a fine one-handed save.

Four minutes into the second half Rovers took the lead when a Tony Sheridan s left wing corner was headed past Quigley by Jason McGuinness.

UCD pushed forward looking for the equaliser with Robbie Martin heading narrowly wide in the 54th minute from an Alan Mahon cross and, two minutes later, they were unlucky again with Murphy brilliantly saving Pat McWalter’s close range shot with Mark Rutherford clearing the striker’s follow-up off the line.

Despite plenty of pressure, Rovers held firm and could have made it 2-0 in injury time when Kieran Foley side-footed wide after being set up by Quigley.
