Longford got better as the half wore on and took a deserved lead in the 44th minute. A long ball from Sean Prunty found Dave Mooney inside the penalty area and after some fancy footwork he struck the ball home for his first goal for the club.
Longford’s dominance grew in the second half and they extended their lead in the 68th minute when Sean Dillon scored a cracker from 30 yards.
One minute later they scored their third when Paul Keegan took a quick free-kick and set John Martin free to slot the ball past Holden.
Waterford almost got a consolation in the 87th minute but Paul Crowley’s effort hit both uprights before being cleared by the Longford defence.
