A Darren O'Brien own goal put Shamrock Rovers seven points clear at the top of the eircom National League, First Division, table overnight as their bright started continued at Tolka Park.

Rovers got what proved the only goal of the game on nine minutes when defender O'Brien turned a cross from Tadgh Purcell into his own net.

Limerick FC 1 Cobh Ramblers 0
McCarthy 55

Derek McCarthy earned Limerick their first win of the season in the eircom League, First Division, as promotion hopefuls Cobh Ramblers lost away for the second week running.

Keeper Packie Holden kept Cobh in the match in the first half at Hogan Park with two super stop midway through.

First he tipped a thumping header from Ken Kiely out for a corner.

From the resultant flag kick Holden then made a point-blank stop from Paul Rose's shot.

But a mistake by Holden would cost Cobh the match on 55 minutes when he spilled Colm Heffernan's shot. McCarthy followed up to drive home the rebound
