The visitors struggled to cope with the poor weather conditions and were also hampered by the hard working Vikings side who probably edged the game over the 90 minutes.

The first half was a scrappy affair with neither side coping well with the windy conditions. Derry had only a couple of half chances to note from Gary Beckett while Ben Whelehan had a long range shot parried by David Forde.

But the main action would take place after the break and after David Freeman’s weak effort was saved by Forde, the 'keeper was to be undone by one of his own men.

Damien Brennan’s long throw caught Ruaidhri Higgins unawares and his sliced clearance sneaked past Forde at his near post to give the shock win to Dublin City.
