eircom League: Derry City 3 Bohemians 1

Last updated : 03 August 2005 By Gerry Ormonde
Bohemians game plan was upset early on when two of their players had to be substituted because of injuries in the opening 28 minute. Defender Stephen Rice was first to go in the third minute when he sustained a shoulder injury after an awkward fall. He was replaced by Sean Cooney who himself had to be replaced 20 minutes later when he suffered a bad gash to the head.

Despite this upheaval it was Bohemians who took the lead after 18 minutes. Fergal Harkin burst into the Derry penalty area and fired a close-range shot towards goal. The shot was blocked but Harkin reacted to drill the ball off goalkeeper David Forde's right-hand upright. Barry Molloy tried to clear, but instead sliced the ball into the net.

In the 34th minute Derry levelled the game from the penalty spot. Aidan Collins, on for the injured Cooney, pulled Killian Brennan to the ground inside the penalty area and the referee immediately pointed to the spot. Derry captain Peter Hutton hammered the penalty into the bottom right corner of Gregg's net.

Ten minutes into the second half Bohemians were down to ten men when Oman was sent off for his second bookable offence after a foul on Ciaran Martyn.

Derry took the lead in the eighty-first minute. Brennan’s cross from the left was headed down by Gary Beckett into the path of Martyn who hammered home and Mark Farren added a third in injury time with a great drive past Gregg to complete Boh’s misery.
