eircom First Division:
Finn Harps 1 (Funston 48) Sligo Rovers 0

The North-west derby - just Connor's second game in charge of Rovers - saw Harps move two points clear of the Students, who have a game in hand.

Connor's charges were putting up a determined resistance, especially in the first half, but eventually Harps' persistance paid off.

Funston was played in by Chris Breen, whose run into the penalty area was perfectly time, and the youngster made no mistake with a drilled finish from ten yards.

Finn Harps: Gallagher, Asokuh, Rossiter, Boyle, Bradley, Mohan, Funston, McGrenaghan, Breen (Connolly 85), McHugh, Gorman.

Sligo Rovers: Rouse, Gallagher, Miller, McNamara (Sheridan 75), O‘Dwyer, Carr, Cretaro, Feeney, Foley (Jack 88), Cassidy (McCartney 64), Gorman.

Referee: Hugo Whoriskey (Dublin)

Bray Wanderers 0 Kildare County 0

Fourth-placed County could have closed the gap on Bray above them, to just a point with a win at the Carlisle Grounds but a stalemate seemed a deserved result.

Kildare right-back Ger O'Brien almost opened the scoring on 13 minutes, but he shot straight at Bray's Australian 'keeper Chris O'Connor.

Kieran 'Tarzan' O'Brien almost broke the deadlock with a stunning shot two

minutes later, but his 25-yarder was tipped over by Brendan Kennedy.

O'Brien drew a large penalty appeal from the home faithful in the second half, and former Crewe target Eamon Zayed (right) clipped a close-range effort wide in injury time.

Bray Wanderers: O'Connor, Gifford, Farrell, Lynch, Charles, Gormley, James, Fox, Zayed, O'Brien (McGrory 75), Flood.

Kildare County: Kennedy, O'Brien, O'Donnell, Kenny, Byrne, Scully, Griffin (Zellor 66), Harte, Francis (McKenna 74), O'Connor, Reilly.

Referee: Tom Connelly (Dublin)
