Last night's game, played at a very blustery Brandywell, was decided in the 66th minute when Derry striker, Gary Beckett, poked Alan Murphy's low cross to the net from six yards.
Derry the home side thoroughly deserved the victory having dominated the scoring chances.
However, one of the biggest talking points was the sending-off of Rovers' boss, Roddy Collins, who was ordered from the dugout on the stroke of half time.
It's understood the Dubliner was involved in an altercation with the game's fourth official, Mr. Paul Deering.
