Sociedad are one of the top sides in Spain and reached the knockout stages of the Champions League, while the San Sebastian club have managed to finish in the top half of La Liga on an annual basis.
They are currently eleventh in the league after 14 matches and if the match goes ahead, Sociedad will follow in the footsteps of Real Madrid and Barcelona, who also played at the Brandywell in recent years.
Sociedad have only won La Liga on two occasions back in the early eighties that was their last success in any competition, although they are still formidable opposition.
The Sociedad squad includes former Rangers striker Mikael Arteta, who spent two seasons with the SPL side before moving to the Anoeta last July.
Derry manager Stephen Kenny will be hoping to make an impression with the club in his first full season in charge and while the Spaniards will be nearing the end of their campaign, the Candystripes will be in pre-season training for the start of the eircom League on March 20th.
