Eric Lavine scored from the six yard box, when a flighted corner was misjudged by Bohs keeper Kelly.
Robbie Doyle playing instead of the injured Glen Crowe put Bohs back in it on 24 minutes when he flashed a left foot volley from outside the box into the Town net. Visitors' substitue Brian Byrne almost put his side in the lead once more on 29 minutes with his first touch, when he slammed his effort off the home crossbar.
Into the second half and Stephen Kenny's side pushed for the winner. On 62 minutes, Stephen Caffrey blazed over. With a quarter of the game left, Bohs broke with pace out of defence, Mark Rutherford fed Robbie Doyle who pinged a long range ball from left to right, for Ukranian Andrei Pereplyotkin to shoot wide.
The hard-working Robbie Doyle, in tandem with substitute Glen Crowe, should have sealed Bohs' second win in six games but the former UCD striker missed a late sitter.
