League of Ireland fixtures are set be used on an experimental run to see how the running off the stadium is like on match days. The IRFU have a high profile Rugby International fixture lined up as the first game at the stadium.
The FAI are thought to be lining up Argentina as the Republic of Irelands first fixture in August 2010, but they will need to have staff and facilities in top working order before then. Therefore LOI fixtures will be played in the new ground which is good for the FAI,fans and the League of Ireland.
FAI chief executive John Delaney said on www.fai.e
"I think our first international match will be in August 2010 and we'll be announcing shortly who the opposition will be.
"We'll also probably hold some League of Ireland matches in it before the first international match.
"They will be used as a learning curve for stewards, turnstile operators, caterers, all those things. You can't just switch it on so they need to be tested."
