Irish international Glenn Whelan has spoken about the horror incident on Saturday, after young Welsh midfielder Aaron Ramsey suffered a career threatening injury. Ramsey sustained the serious leg break after a challenge from Stoke midfielder Ryan Shawcross at the Britannia Stadium on Saturday evening.
Whelan did his best to comfort the young Arsenal player until medical attention came onto the pitch.
The Dubliner said on www.elevenaside.com
"I was trying my best to take his mind off it, telling him not to look at it or think about it. He knew straight away how bad it was, though. He just kept saying 'my leg, my leg'.
"I went there because I was closest to him. I had to. He held onto me with the pain he was going through. I think he went into a state of shock when it happened, so I was just trying to do what I could."
Whelan will win his 18th International cap for Ireland tonight against Brazil.
