Young Irish hopeful Sean Scannell will earn his first Senior cap to keep the youngster away from the English team. Scannell qualifies for the Irish team as his father is from Castleblayney in Co Monaghan.

The London born striker who is only 17 made his under-21 debut last month against Montenegro. Fabio Capello was looking at the Palace striker who has had a wonderful first season in the Coca Cola Championship.

Ireland have 2 friendly games and they will play Serbia on the 24th of May. Then they entertain South American opponents Columbia on the 29th of May. Scannell who can still qualify for England as he has not played a senior game is part of a 40-man preliminary squad. The incoming Irish manager feels the need to hand him his first cap during these 2 games.
