Staunton's woeful time in charge took another battering as the Irish team clawed an injury-time equaliser from Liverpool fullback Steve Finnan. It was about the performance, more than the result indicted the entire management set-up need to address the situation.
The meeting of the Board of Management had been penned in for November 13th but now with the need to discuss the managerial situation. Staunton will be out of the job less than two years into his four-year deal.
FAI chief executive John Delaney said
"Board meetings have been brought forward earlier to deal with major issues and we'll see over the coming couple of days what our board members want to do in that respect."
Delaney's has been linked with that of Staunton since the appointment was made in January 2006 but the FAI chief attempted to sidestep his influence on the decision making process.
"It's unfortunate that I've been personally linked to the appointment," he said. "There was a sub-committee of three that made it which was ratified by the board of the FAI, which is a committee of 10."
