With Euro 2004 over and Wayne Rooney mania quieting down slighty there is finally room for Irich players to fill up the newspaper columns.

Firstly, Arsenal No2 Graham Stack has joined Millwall on a season long loan spell. The former Irish under 21 star describes working with Dennis Wise as an 'exciting proposition'.

Former Liverpool winger Jason McAteer has failed to reach an agreement over personal terms with First Division Leciester City. The Liverpool born midfielder has played for Bolton and Blackburn also and has just been released by his fellow member of the Roy Keane appreciation society Mick McCarthy at Sunderland.

For those of us that wanted to see Andy Reid in the Premiership this season may be disappointed as stubborn Forest boss Joe Kinnear has slapped a £10 million price tag on his star player. This price looks to have put off potential suitors Aston Villa and Charlton but it may test the resolve of Spurs duo Jaques Santini and Frank Arnesan who have already signified their intent on bringing Reid to White Hart Lane.

Also at Spurs, Chris Hughton, Brian Kerr's assistant for Ireland, has been tols that he is part of the Spurs backroom staff for the upcoming season. Hughton had feared that Santini would rather bring in some French colleagues but has been reassured of his place in London.

Finally in this weeks round-up Ireland have gone down two places in the FIFA World rankings without even kicking a ball.

England have move from 13th to 8th, Portugal from 22nd to 12th and winners Greece have gone from 21st to 14th. All this means Irealnd go down to 16th.

World Cup qualifying opponents France remain in 2nd while Bulgaria, who Ireland meet in August drop to 41st.
