Squad to face Wales

Caretaker manager Don Givens has not been shy in making changes to the squad for the last qualifier in Wales. Scunthorpe goalkeeper Joe Murphy returns to the squad for the first time in more than two years. Sunderland striker Anthony Stokes who had a public row with Givens after failing to report for under-21 duty gets his call-up.

Andy O'Brien who has been out in the cold from international duty since the disaster in Cyprus a year ago returns after a fine spell with his current club Bolton Wanderers. Blackburn Rovers midfielder Steven Reid makes the squad since injury in the opening qualifier against Germany.

Stephen Ireland's days look numbered even after scoring a match-winner against Sunderland on Monday night. There is no place for him after he withdrew from the Czech game and then the double header in Croke Park last month.

From Staunton's final squad who miss out against Wales are Nick Colgan, Darren Potter and Stephen Elliott and winger Alan O'Brien plus defender Stephen Carr. Carr, Potter and Elliott are all currently injured.

Some Irish fans must still be scratching their heads as to how Kevin Kilbane and Jonthan Duoglas have made the squad but will hope they don't have to for much longer.
