Shays future injured

Shay Given will be out for anything between 6-12 weeks and will miss the start of Giovanni Trapattoni's reign. The Lifford born goalkeeper has had problems since the horrible injury in Upton Park where Marlon Harewood ruptured his bowel in a collision. Given has had one groin injury after the other since that time.

He was sent all over the world but was operated on by the renowned German Specialist Dr Ulrike Muschaweck

A Newcastle statement said

"After consultation with Dr Ulrike Muschaweck, Shay Given will have surgery in Munich today(Wednsday 18th) to cure his recurrent groin problems.

"He is expected to make a full recovery and will be absent for a six-week period."

That's not good news for the Irish team but with no qualifiers until next September it will give our best player over the past 3 years plenty of time to recover.
