Shay moves on

Shay Given moved away from Newcastle United on Sunday having spent almost 12 years at the Magpies. THe Republic of Ireland goalkeeper had been itching for a move away from the club because off what he viewed that the club was going nowhere. Manchester City have signed the experienced shot stopper for an undisclosed fee thought to be in the region of £9M.

It is a significant move for Given who has shown admirable loyalty to Newcastle in his time there. After a 5-1 hammering at the hands of Liverpool in Newcastle Given decided he needed a fresh start. Given played 461 games for Newcastle United after joining for £1.5m from Blackburn Rovers in 1997.
