Reids hope for the republic

When the search for the new manager ended with the appointment of Giovanni Trapattoni, Sunderland midfielder Andy Reid hoped it would bring some calm to the Irish set-up.

He said in the Sunday Independent

"I think there comes a point when you can only change managers so much. And the, no matter who's calling for whoever's head, you have to give somebody a fair chance. And if it takes three years, it takes three years and so be it. I'm sure with his track record there aren't too many people who are better qualified to do that."

Reid hasn't thought much about comments made by players like Lee Carsley about Liam Brady.

He told the Sunday Independent

"To be honest with you I've been playing so I haven't been watching RTE. I love playing football and I love playing for my country, no matter who the manager is or who the other players are. It's great to pull on the green shirt and go out and play. I think we can get drawn too much into slagging people off when it's not neccessary. We haven't met up yet so nobody knows what anybody's position is within the set-up."
