Reid wants back in

Andy Reid fell out of favour with the Republic of Ireland squad since Giovanni Trapattoni's appointment in 2008. His crime seems to be a late night music session last September in Germany. He has not featured in any squad since, but the Dubliner is confident he can show what he is made of.

Reid has been training very hard all summer and he celebrates his 27th birthday this week. He has also had a scratchy club career but hopes new Sunderland boss Steve Bruce takes notice.

He said on www.elevenaside.com

"This is a World Cup season and I want to be involved. I'm fitter now than I've ever been before.

"I don't know what I need to do to get back into the Ireland squad but I still believe I can play a part.

"I have said it before - I am always available to play for Ireland. I have no problem about coming back."
