Reid all about it - Andy wants a transfer

By Barry Landy
Wednesday, 4th August 2004
Andy Reid has handed in a transfer request to Nottingham Forest, amid increasing speculation that the Irish international winger is to jump a division to the Premiership.

The 22-year-old handed in a transfer request on Tuesday as speculation increased that a number of Premiership clubs, most notably Tottenham Hotspur, are about to make a bid.

Spurs have already had a Stg£3 million bid for him turned down this summer and also had a Stg£5 million bid rejected last January while Forest boss Joe Kinnear has insisted that Reid would only be sold for a bid of over the latter amount.

Reid has now decided to put in a transfer request though Forest have, so far, not commented on the situation.

Tipped for stardom at an early age and was part of the Republic of Ireland Under 16 side that won the European Championships in 1998 despite still being eligible for Under 15 level.

The following year, he was part of the Under 18 squad that finished third in the European Championships, but his rapid progress stalled shortly afterwards. However, having recovered from fitness problems, he produced some fine performances for the Under 21s as well as his club Nottingham Forest earning him a call-up to the senior panel and a man of the match debut against Canada.

He has been almost ever present in the Ireland side since then and now has seven caps in total.
