Ranieri a candidate for the Irish job
Ranieri's agents, First Artist Corporation, confirmed last night that there has been contact between them and the FAI.

"We had a brief discussion but there has been nothing further than that," said the spokesman.

Ranieri is currently available after parting company with Valencia and has already indicated publicly he would be interested in the Ireland job.

The 54-year-old Italian is one of several high-profile managers currently being sounded out by the three-man sub-committee charged with finding Brian Kerr's successor.

Direct or indirect approaches have already been made to Martin O'Neill, Terry Venables, and George Graham while PSV Eindhoven manager Gus Hiddink will also get a call if Australia fail to beat Uruguay in their World Cup play-off.
