Robbie Keane lost his appeal for his harsh sending off on Sunday against Birmingham. It means he will miss Premiership matches against Man City and Portsmouth plus a Carling Cup tie also against Man City.

Stephen Kenny was axed after a year of poor league results for Dunfermline Athletic. He tried to keep the club in the SPL last season and was unlucky but the team have struggled this term in the first division. Kenny will have lots of job offers in the Eircom League after building a very strong Derry City team whom he left for to join Dunfermline.

A club Statement said

"DAFC have terminated their contract with Stephen Kenny with immediate effect Jim McIntyre becomes DAFC's caretaker.

"DAFC will now take time to interview and appoint a new permanent head coach over the next few weeks.

"Stephen Kenny's record at Dunfermline included taking the team to two cup finals within a year of him arriving.

"Unfortunately his league form just eight wins in 39 league matches led to him losing his managerial position.

"The heavy defeats at home to Hamilton away to bottom of the table Stirling Albion and then at home to Livingston led to the DAFC board to voice their support for their manager.

"Unfortunately for all concerned the inability to change the outcome of results has meant that the club have now moved to replace him."

Former Irish striker Niall Quinn has backed another former gunner Liam Brady to be chosen as the next man to lead the Republic of Ireland into the next World Cup campaign.

"The Ireland job is a big job and the country has had years of success. There's a lot of young players waiting to burst into the scene and emulate the team of 20 years ago.

"The secret to Ireland doing well is to get someone who can work with the young lads help them make the step-up from having a few caps to actually going and achieving. I think 20 players were capped in the last year or two so those guys have to be brought on.

"The person that springs to my mind is Liam Brady he's one that all the players have serious respect for. People question his record at Celtic but it was at a time when Rangers decided to go mad and spend millions upon millions and it was hard for him to do that.

"He's learned so much at Arsenal under Arsene Wenger he's brilliant with young people and he might just suit."
