Morrison earned his 21st cap in the win against the Dutch, but failed to improve on his five-goal tally. Indeed the 25-year-old has not scored for nine internationals, a statistic that has Kerr none too worried however.
Kerr said, "I am sure Clinton himself is frustrated at not scoring goals on a regular basis for Birmingham and for us but as long as he continues to work hard and improve on the areas of his game which he needs to - and I know he is working on them - then that is important."
"He has got to continue to work on his finishing and his composure when he gets into goalscoring positions, but there are other areas of his play which he has improved on such as his link play with the midfield, his crossing and his heading," added Kerr, who is bound for Portugal and a spying mission on World Cup qualifier opponents France and Switzerland.
"I would hope that him getting into better positions will come and I am certainly not putting him under any pressure," he added. "Clinton is great to have around in the squad, he is a fantastic character and I am sure he is suffering inside so the last thing he needs is to be told that he is missing a few chances and that I need him to finish them - he knows that."
"What he needs is to be told he is doing fine and the fact that I am playing him in the matches is his vote of confidence from me. If he was just starting his international career now then people would be excited about him, but because he has played quite a bit there is an expectancy level there."
Ireland captain Kenny Cunningham, Morrison's team-mate at St Andrews, has also seen an improvement in the striker's play.
"When Clinton first came to us from Crystal Palace I don't think he realised just how big a step up it was," said the central defender. "He was not getting so many chances and when he did he needed to be more clinical, so it was not easy for him to establish himself."
"He then had a shoulder injury and he has come back well and he was one of the reasons why our season really took off. He formed a great partnership with Mikael Forssell and his link-up play was very good - the only thing lacking was a couple more goals", added the Dubliner.
"He works hard on the training pitch and hopefully we will soon start to see him scoring a lot more goals at both club and international level."
