McSheffrey issues plea to Staunton

McSheffrey, 23, who once represented England at U-18 level, has now written off his chances of a senior breakthrough but qualifies to be play for Ireland - where his father and three grandparents are from - or Scotland - where his remaining grandparent was born.

"People like Jermaine Defoe and Darius Vassell are not even getting a look in at the moment (with England), so I will look elsewhere and it's first come, first served," he said.
