Paul McShane had to come back early from holidays when he injured himself. He has had surgery after he fractured his knee-cap in a holiday accident. McShane had to get back to Wearside where he was sent for the operation by his Sunderland doctor. It is hoped he will be available for the start of the Premeirship season

Sunderland doctor Glenn Rae told http://www.safc.com/news/?page_id=15072

"It was a very complex fracture but we managed to get Paul back with us straight away so he could get the best possible attention.

"The operation was a success and Paul will now undergo intensive rehabilitation during the course of the pre-season, and we're hopeful he'll be able to return to action by the start of the new season."
