FULL TIME @ LANSDOWNE ROAD:
Rep. Of Ireland 1
-0 Portugal

90+3 mins:
Ireland run down the clock from the corner and the final whistle goes to confirm an impressive victory for Brian Kerr's side.

90+2 mins: It's a strong finish from Ireland and Reid is to the fore again as he powers in a decent shot which is deflected out for a corner.

90+1 mins: Reid plays a great ball over the top for McGeady but Ricardo reacts well as he races out of his area to hack clear.

90 mins: There will be three minutes of added time.

89 mins: Boa Morte fires in a shot after turning smartly inside the area but Given makes no mistake.

88 mins: Matias swings in a cross from the left but it's met well by Dunne and headed clear.

87 mins: The clock is counting down now and Portugal surely won't come closer than that Viana effort.

86 mins: That was actually a great fingertip save by Given - and it's kept Ireland's lead intact.

85 mins: Portugal break quickly after clearing the corner and Viana so nearly brings them level when he lashes in a shot that goes just inches wide.

84 mins: McGeady is involved straight away and he gets a cross in from the right which Portugal are forced to put out for a corner.

83 mins: McGeady does indeed join the action for the final seven minutes or so, in place of Keane.

82 mins: Ireland are poised to make another change as Aiden McGeady is getting ready to come on.

81 mins: We're into the final ten minutes and Ireland look to be heading for a deserved victory.

80 mins: The corner causes all sorts of problems for the Irish defence and they are forced to hack the ball out for another flagkick. This time Gomes is penalised for pushing.

79 mins: Viana's shot from 25 yards out deflects off Dunne and just goes wide of the goal for a corner.

78 mins: A fantastic ball into the box from Fernandes bobbles across the edge of the Ireland six-yard box but luckily for the home side Gomes can't get the final touch and it runs out of play for a goalkick.

77 mins: It's a freekick to Portugal this time but the Ireland defence stands firm and the ball is headed clear.

76 mins: The ball is played in to the Portugal area from the freekick and Morrison lashes in a goal-bound shot which is well blocked by the Portuguese defence.

75 mins: Kavanagh wins a freekick for Ireland out on the left touchline.

74 mins: That was the closest Ireland have come to finding the net since their goal - and it was a wonderful touch from Keane which created the chance.

73 mins:

Morrison and Keane link-up superbly and Matias almost turns the ball into his own net as he gets a foot in - the ball bouncing back off the post.

72 mins: A snapshot from Viana almost brings Given into action but it goes a couple of yards wide of the left-hand upright.

71 mins: A flick-on from Gomes almost plays Viana in but the former Newcastle man reacts a fraction too slowly and the chance has gone.

70 mins: Portugal make their sixth and final change as Manuel Fernandes comes on for his international debut in place of Ronaldo.

69 mins: Duff's 50th appearance for the Republic of Ireland ends early as he's replaced by Liam Miller for the final 20 minutes or so.

68 mins: The game is just starting to get a little niggly and Keane and Andrade are the latest players to square up to each other.

67 mins: A poor tackle from Matias brings down Duff and the Portuguese player becomes the second person to go into referee Messias' notebook. Yellow Card for the Portugese.

66 mins: Great play by Ireland sees them bring the ball out of defence in stunning style. Meanwhile Ronaldo has rejoined the action.

65 mins: There's been a brief stoppage after that foul from Duff as Ronaldo requires treatment.

64 mins: Duff gets the game's first yellow card after an unusually cynical challenge on Ronaldo.

63 mins: There's a blatant bodycheck on Duff and it's a freekick to Ireland. The game's just become a little scrappy - maybe as a result of the substitutions.

62 mins: Portugal make a change of their own - their fifth of the match - as Fulham's Luis Boa Morte replaces Simao.

61 mins: The Ireland substitution now takes place with Dunne taking over from Cunningham. The skipper's armband is handed over to Matt Holland.

60 mins: Reid finds himself in an almost identical position to Morrison just seconds before but his shot isn't much better and also goes wide.

59 mins: Things open up on the edge of the area for Morrison but his left-footed shot is a weak one and dribbles wide.

58 mins: It looks like Ireland are going to make a second change, with Richard Dunne warming up on the sidelines.

57 mins: Portugal are enjoying the bulk of possesion at the moment but struggling to create many clearcut chances and Kenny Cunningham is the latest Ireland player to break up an attack.

56 mins: Some good build-up work from Portugal comes to nothing after an awful shot from Rogerio Matias which slices horribly wide.

55 mins: Portugal clear the corner without alarm and start to build again from the back.

54 mins: There's a half chance for Morrison after he times his run superbly and breaks clear but he has to settle for a corner.

53 mins: That last attack was arguably Portugal's best of the match so far and a real warning to Ireland.

52 mins: Simao gets away from O'Shea and tries to play a one-two on the edge of the area with Gomes but Ireland just do enough to clear the danger.

51 mins:
Morrison is flagged offside for Ireland. Meanwhile Ronaldo seems to be winded following a challenge with Kavanagh.

50 mins: Keane wants a freekick after a strong challenge from Andrade but referee Messias waves play on.

45+1 mins: The one minute of added time was completely uneventful and the whistle goes to end the opening 45 minutes. It's been a decent display by Ireland and they thoroughly deserve their slender advantage.

45 mins: There will be one minute of added time at the end of the first half.

44 mins: Ireland are keeping possession well again now and a floated ball to the edge of the area finds Duff who works himself some space and fizzes in a low shot which Ricardo gathers at the second attempt.

43 mins: Yet again the flagkick from out on the right is too strong and never threatens the Portuguese net.

42 mins: Lovely play by Reid sees him thread a great ball out to Keane who then feeds Finnan and the low cross is desperately hacked out by Portugal for a corner.

41 mins: O'Shea and Duff link up well down the left to win a throw for Ireland near the corner flag but Portugal are then able to clear the ball upfield.

40 mins: Duff wins the ball well from Simao to initiate an Ireland counterattack but Andrade gets back to cover the danger.

39 mins: A corner out on the right to Ireland is overhit and as a result the ball evades everyone in the area and rolls out of play.

38 mins: Deco seems to have picked up a knock as he's limping after that last attack but he stays on the pitch to try and run it off.

37 mins: Deco steps away from Kilbane 25 yards out and lashes in a shot but it never looks like threatening Given's goal.

36 mins: A decent ball from Steve Finnan into Keane comes to nothing as the Tottenham man just loses his footing.

35 mins: Reid loses possession down the right flank - Ireland have just been a little but subdued in the last ten minutes or so.

34 mins: Great play by Duff as he gets the better of a tussle with his Chelsea teammates Tiago and Paulo Ferreira and that allows Ireland to make a rare - for the last few minutes at least - foray out of their own half.

33 mins: A flowing move by Portugal eventually sees Deco teed up just inside the area but Irish goalscorer O'Brien gets in a crucial block.

32 mins: That was a great save by Given and Ireland then clear the subsequent corner to maintain their 1-0 advantage.

31 mins: Petit eventually powers in a superb strike from the freekick which is well turned around the post by Shay Given.

30 mins: Ronaldo wins a freekick for Portugal on the edge of the area.

29 mins: More trickery from Ronaldo sees him neatly sidestep Duff but Ireland eventually win the ball back.

28 mins: It's another corner to Portugal, this time from the left but it's overhit by Deco and drifts out of play.

27 mins: Portugal win a corner down the right which is taken by Deco and Matt Holland needs to get in an important header to clear the danger.

26 mins: Pauleta pounces on a poor ball from Ireland and floats in a decent cross from the left flank but Ronaldo's header glances a fraction too high.

25 mins: Reid takes the freekick but his effort is high and wide.

24 mins: Duff is again to the fore as he wins a freekick to Ireland 30 yards out.

23 mins: That goal was no more than Ireland deserved - they've started the match superbly up front with Duff in particular absolutely outstanding.

22 mins: GOAL - O'BRIEN. There's a first international goal for the Newcastle defender as he prods the ball home from the corner after John O'Shea's initial header dropped kindly to him.

21 mins: Another fantastic move from Ireland sees Reid burst into the area and fire in a low cross which Portugal gratefully hack out for a corner.

20 mins: Keane is flagged offside to bring a temporary halt to proceedings - it's been a bright start to the match by both sides though.

19 mins: A fantastic run by Ronaldo sees him burst into the Ireland area but Andy O'Brien gets in a vital tackle to save the day.

18 mins: There's a freekick to Ireland just on the edge of the right of the area - it's fizzed in low by Reid but Andrade gets across first and makes a decent clearance.

17 mins: The corner is taken short this time and Duff then swings in a cross from the right. The ball loops towards Morrison but he's well marshalled by Tiago and the chance goes begging.

16 mins: More good work from Clinton Morrison and Duff wins another corner for Ireland.

15 mins: Keane was claiming he was pushed on that last move but the referee waves play on and replays are inconclusive.

14 mins: Ireland create their first real chance of the match, another slick move working the ball out to the right to Duff and this time he gets a great cross in but Keane can't quite head home.

13 mins: There's a meaty challenge from Petit on Matt Holland and it's an important one because a swift counterattack would have been on the cards.

12 mins: There's some great build-up play from Ireland and the ball is spread wide to Duff out on the right but he's unable to get a cross in and Portugal win back possession.

11 mins: Ronaldo looks to break clear down the left flank for Portugal but he's stopped in his tracks by the referee's whistle for an earlier infringement.

10 mins: Ireland win a freekick out on the left which is pumped into the box but Andrade is on hand to head clear.

9 mins: There's a real let-off for Ireland when Jorge Andrade somehow manages to scoop the ball over the bar rather than into the net from that Portugal corner. He was inside the six-yard box when the ball fell to him.

8 mins: A lovely ball into Ronaldo sees the youngster create a bit of space in the area and his snapshot is deflected out for Portugal's first corner.

7 mins: Tiago works himself some space on the edge of the Ireland area and unleashes a low shot which just bends wide of the post. He should have been closed down more quickly and that's an early warning for the home side.

6 mins: Ronaldo is booed when the ball next comes to him - that argument with Duff seemed to start when the Portuguese starlet went to ground too easily.

5 mins: There's an early flashpoint between Cristiano Ronaldo and Duff - maybe the Manchester United v Chelsea rivalry is resurfacing - and the duo get a lecture from referee Matt Messias.

4 mins: Portugal gift possession inside their own half to Andy Reid and he breaks clear but his cross from the right is cleared.

3 mins: The freekick is floated into the area and deflected out for a corner to Ireland but the flagkick comes to nothing - already it appears that the windy conditions aren't making things easy for the players.

2 mins: There's an early touch for Damien Duff - playing his 50th international for Ireland - and the ball is played into Kevin Kilbane who is upended by Armando Petit so it's a freekick to Ireland.

1 min: The Republic of Ireland get us under way on a blustery but dry night at Lansdowne Road. Both sides have named strong starting line-ups so everything looks set for an entertaining and informative clash. Portugal are wearing a changed white and black strip in a statement against racism, in common with several other sides this evening.
