Longford Town Docked Six Points

Premier Division basement club Longford Town have had their survival hopes dashed even further, after the FAI Club licensing committee docked them six points, in light of the club's failure to comply with licensing procedures.

Longford, along with several other unnamed clubs, had been given an extension to provide the required information, with Town the only side not to meet the new deadline.

A statement from the FAI read: "With the exception of one club, all requested information was provided in time for the Licensing Committee meeting yesterday.

"Longford Town FC, however, failed to provide the necessary information and as such they were non-compliant with the requirements of the FAI Club Licensing Manual.

"Having already incurred a fine of €6,000, the Committee decided to impose a further sanction on Longford Town FC of a six point deduction in view of the club's continued failure to adhere to licensing requirements."

The point deduction leaves Alan Matthews side rooted to the bottom of the Premier Division on zero points, seven points behind Galway United in 11th place, and eight points off safety.

The club has five business days to lodge an appeal.
