Longford skipper to miss Cup final

Dubliner Ferguson (pictured left, lifting last year's trophy), who turned 25 last month, was issued with his ban by the league's Disciplinary Commission today after reaching eight penalty points.

The suspension will be effective from October 20, four days before the showpiece final in Dublin - in what could be Town's third Cup success in twelve months, following last year's win and August's League Cup defeat of Bohemians.

Ferguson played his part in last night's semi-final replay win at United Park, as he deflected Sean McClare's shot wide of Stephen O'Brien's Longford goal and cleared two first half efforts from Gary Cronin and Danny O'Connor off the goal line in a combative display.

He also netted a 93rd minute equaliser in last month's league 1-1 draw against Bohs at Dalymount Park - which sees Town currently in fifth position.

Other players to receive a one-match suspension include Shelbourne winger Ollie Cahill, David Mooney of strike-threatening Shamrock Rovers and Dublin City striker Alex Nesovic - who all accumulated four penalty points.

Drogheda full-back Jody Flanagan received a ban as a result of his sending off by Dublin referee Paul McKeon for his challenge on Waterford skipper John Frost on September 24.
