Having already lost Wayne Henderson and Alan O'Brien to injuries yesterday, the bad news continued for Republic of Ireland manager Stephen Staunton. Stephen Finnan stayed behind in Liverpool for treatment on a knee injury. He is rated very doubtful for the qualifiers in Slovakia and the Czech Republic. He seems to have hurt himself in the game against Derby County at the weekend. This is a blow for manager Staunton as he has lost Stephen Carr his other right back.
Reading forward Stephen Long is also a doubt having missed Reading previous 2 matches with a thumb injury. His chances look slim and he will be badly missed as he scored 2 goals in his last match against Denmark. Darren Potter is still sidelined with a groin injury as Stauntons injury list mounts.
