Lansdowne nightmare

The cost of redeveloping Lansdowne Road may run 100 Million Euro over the original budget. The Cost of the project was €365m back when the plan was finalised by the government, the IRFU, and the FAI. A new amount thought to be around €466m was handed to the Minister for sport Martin Cullen.

The Government will pay €191m of the taxpayers money towards the project, and Government officials will not go beyond this figure. The extra costs will have to be found by both the IRFU and the FAI.

With the FAI finding it hard to stump up their share of the original cost of Lansdowne Road an extra €50 Million will make their task even harder. The new Lansdowne Road stadium will be a state of the art modern design. It is set to be completed around 2010.
