Miroslav Klose has a knee injury which he picked up in Bayern's league win over Bayer Leverkusen at the weekend. He will not be able to lead the German attack against the Republic of Ireland. However on a negative note the injury will rule the prolific striker from appearing in Germany's home game with the Czechs .

Bayern manager Ottmar Hitzfeld told the clubs website

"He is in a lot of pain and can't even run. He is definitely on the sidelines for Belenenses, and Nürnberg and for the German games aswell"

It is some relief for the Irish squad but Germany will be able to draft in a replacement.
