At the beginning of the season the flying winger, Damien Duff, was linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge following Arjen Robben’s arrival. However Duff’s recent goal scoring haul which gives him 8 for the season has once again proved the Irishman’s value. There is no doubt the midfielder is the key man at the moment and will play a huge part in any plans the Blues may have of capturing the title.

It was the turn of David O’ Leary’s Aston Villa to suffer at the wing wizards feet. Duff struck from the edge of the area on 30 minutes to give Jose Mourinhio‘s men a 1-0 victory.

Birmingham front man Clinton Morrison continued his excellent partnership with Emile Heskey as both men scored in a 2-0 defeat of Middlesborough.

The Irish international pounced after just 10 minutes to continue Birmingham’s recent good form. The Midlanders had struggled in front of goal early season while Morrison was on the treatment table. However since his return both Birmingham and his strike partner Heskey have enjoyed much better form. The Blues have now won their last three matches while Morrison has netted in his last four starts.

Robbie Keane placed down a marker to strike partners Jermaine Defoe and Frederick Kanoute with a 73rd minute strike in Spurs 2-0 win at Norwich.

Keane has been forced to sit on the bench recently with Defoe/Kanoute being Martin Jol’s preferred strike partnership. However the English striker was rested for the clash at Carrow Road and Keane took full advantage.

The Irishman was a threat throughout and his finish with 17 minutes to go gave the Londoners the lead.

Celtic's Aiden McGeady also scored the first goal in his club's 2-0 victory, this time over Hearts in the SPL. Stillian Petrov grabbed the second for the Glasgow side.

And finally, Wicklow born, Irish under 21 international Paul McShane scored on his Walsall debut in the 2-3 loss to Sheffield Wednesday. McShane, who is on-loan from Manchester United was brought straight into the team alongside keeper Joe Murphy and Mark Kinsella.
